Distractions Agalore

It is so hard to write with so many distractions all around me. Recently, I’ve been reading Upstream by Mary Oliver. Frankly, I’ve been jealous. She had surrounded herself with such peace that it is only nature and writing that find a place in her life.

I’m addicted to Facebook and Whatsapp. Though I’ve shut down notifications on my phone, I still keep switching it on to see what’s new there. I don’t need to do that. There can be nothing important there.

I wish I had time and tranquillity to just sit around doing nothing. Solitude and silence, both together, are a rarity in my life. I need to learn to put down the phone and live my life in peace.

From 10 am to 3 pm, I should not log on to social media hereafter. Let me take this as an oath today.

Even those five hours (out of 18 hours in the day) of freedom from insistent checking of the phone will bring solace, I think. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes.
